Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
