Former Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Legal authorities report that a ex- physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief CPS official said, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
