The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
