Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden Fall Classic since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."
Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, making him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot other than him with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson said "there's no question that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
