Trump Invites Loved Ones of Injured Military Members to the White House

President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.

Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Response

Mourners came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in the capital.

Remembering Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, informed the press. “She was caring, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”

Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of travel documents.

Status of Wolfe

The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she also intended to visit his relatives.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he told the audience at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
