Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
Now that Season 1 of the popular program reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction
One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.
“The experience is akin to an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by what people are saying.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.
The Central Mystery: Will the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.
“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Then again, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.
“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?
“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
